On the 2d day of November, 1926, Ben Mansfield was in the employment of the Pure Oil Company, a corporation, as pipe fitter foreman at its refinery situated on the banks of the Neches river at Smith’s Bluff, Jefferson county, Tex. The Neches river is a navigable stream flowing into the Gulf of Mexico through Sabine Lake, and is directly connected with the Gulf by a ship channel leading from its mouth to Sabine Pass.
