|¶The defendant, Lonnele Jamal Shelton,1 was indicted by a grand jury for second degree murder, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:30.1, and armed robbery, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:64. Pursuant to a plea agreement, the defendant pled guilty to manslaughter, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:31, and the armed robbery charge. In exchange for the defendant’s guilty plea, the state agreed to recommend that the sentence for the armed robbery conviction not exceed 60 years. Following a sentencing hearing, the trial court sentenced the defendant to serve 40 years at hard labor for the1 manslaughter conviction.…
