The plaintiff is the named beneficiary of a $10,000 life insurance policy on her mother’s life issued by the defendant on January 22,1930. The policy has a double indemnity provision by which the defendant undertook to pay an additional $10,000 on proof that the insured’s death 11 resulted directly and independently of all other causes from bodily injury effected solely through external, violent and" accidental means and occurred within ninety days after such injury ”.

The insured on February 22, 1946, sustained bodily injuries, consisting among others, of a fracture of the right hip bone.…
