I respectfully dissent because the majority’s opinion diverges in material respects from the lengthy line of cases requiring *92the Commonwealth to strictly comply with the provisions of Code § 19.2-187 and courts to narrowly construe its language. I would hold that the trial court erroneously denied appellant’s motion to suppress the certificate of analysis (certificate) because the Commonwealth’s attorney failed to comply with the request by appellant’s counsel for a copy of the certificate before trial.
