This is a civil rights action brought by seven plaintiffs who are or were inpatients at mental health facilities operated by the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (DMH). They claim they have special or chronic medical or nursing care needs that cannot adequately be treated by the DMH medical care system, and allege that defendants’ “gross, systematic and continuing failure to provide them adequate medical care and facilities” violates the federal and state constitutions, and federal and state law1 (Complaint…
