On February 28, 2007, a pelvic mesh medical device was surgically implanted into Freda R. Shepherd at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. The mesh device was manufactured and distributed by Johnson & Johnson and Ethicon, Inc. On September 11, 2012, Shepherd commenced an action against Baptist Health,1 Johnson, and Ethicon in the Circuit Court of Pulaski County, Arkansas, alleging that she suffers severe and permanent pain due to the erosion, collapse, and ultimate failure of the mesh device.
