In August 2002, the defendant, Douglas Monroe, was charged with sexually assaulting his stepdaughter and his stepson. Following a jury trial, the defendant was convicted of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child (720 ILCS 5/12 — 14.1(a)(1) (West 2002)) and aggravated criminal sexual abuse (720 ILCS 5/12 — 16(c)(l)(i) (West 2002)). The defendant was sentenced to a total of 13 years’ imprisonment.
