On August 24, 1882, the defendant entered into a written contract with the plaintiff for the publication of a book, to be known as Tbe Housekeeper’s Encyclopedia, whereby, in consideration of five hundred dollars then paid to him, and five hundred dollars more to be paid upon the completion of this work, he agreed to publish one thousand copies of said book; said edition of one thousand copies to be completed in October, 1882.
