LASKER, District Judge.

Until February 1,1978, H. C. Wainwright & Co. (later Wainwright Securities, Inc.) was engaged in the business of preparing investment research reports for institutional investors. The Wall Street Transcript, a financial weekly newspaper, publishes summaries and abstracts of such reports. In 1976, Wainwright began copyrighting its research reports, and later that year brought this action for copyright infringement against the Transcript and Richard Holman, its owner (collectively, the Transcript).
