CALABRIA, Judge.

Plaintiff appeals from the trial court's orders and judgment. We affirm.

I. Background

Regina Johnson ("Regina") was born in Poland on 22 November 1918. Around 1962, Regina and her husband, Norman, moved to the United States and settled in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In 1976, Regina's nephew, Marek Maciolowski ("Marek"), moved to the United States to pursue a master's degree. He lived with Regina and Norman for two years, then moved into his own residence in Chapel Hill.
