GILMAN, Circuit Judge.
The Kalamazoo River Study Group (KRSG), an unincorporated association of paper manufacturers, brought suit in federal district court pursuant to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA), 42 U.S.C. §§ 9601-75, seeking contribution from Rockwell International Corporation for the latter’s role in contaminating the Kalamazoo River with polychlo-rinated biphenyls (PCBs).
