State v. Paredes
Supreme Court of Iowa
1Opinion of the Court
APPEL, Justice.
Edwin Paredes appeals his conviction for child endangerment resulting in serious injury. The charges arose after his infant child was diagnosed with shaken-baby syndrome. Paredes claims that the district court erred in excluding hearsay *558statements made by the child’s mother that she “may have” caused the baby’s injuries. The court of appeals affirmed Paredes’ conviction. For the reasons expressed below, we vacate the decision of the court of appeals, reverse the judgment of the district court, and remand the case for a new trial.
