Defendant is the owner of the street railway lines in the city of Seattle. Since 1890, a line of street railway has been maintained on Madison street, from Western avenue to Laurelshade, near Lake Washington.' This line is about three and one-half miles long, and runs from the downtown district to or near Lake Washington. Madison street is one of the main street-car thoroughfares in the city.
