Defendant, Marco Alvarez, 1 appeals his conviction and sentence following a 1986 jury trial. Alvarez was indicted by a Cook County grand jury on murder charges arising from a fatal shooting outside a Chicago social club. He was found guilty and sentenced to 38 years’ imprisonment. (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1983, ch. 38, par. 9 — 1(a).)
