In September 1999 defendant, Bryce Jamesson, was charged by complaint with the offenses of unlawful contact with a street gang member (720 ILCS 5/25—1.1 (West 1998)) and unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor (235 ILCS 5/6—20 (West 1998)). At a bench trial, defendant was convicted of the unlawful-contact offense and acquitted of the alcohol offense. The trial court sentenced defendant to a term of two years’ probation.
