Dear Sheriff Kight:

You have requested our opinion concerning the scope of your authority as Sheriff to serve court orders that direct you to go out-of-state and return a prisoner to Maryland for trial. You indicate that you have received writs of habeas corpus and other miscellaneous court orders that direct you, as Sheriff, to go to Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, and other nearby jurisdictions to return prisoners to Montgomery County for trial.
