Pedro Grijalva, hereinafter called plaintiff, brought suit against the Supreme Lodge of the Fraternal Brotherhood, a fraternal benefit association organized under the laws of California, hereinafter called the defendant, alleging substantially as follows: That one Barbara Aguirre, hereinafter called the insured, was during her lifetime a member of defendant association; that on August 6, 1921, and while she was such a member, defendant issued to her a benefit certificate in the sum of $1,000 payable to plaintiff in case of her death from natural causes while the certificate was in force, and…
