This was a suit to foreclose a mortgage given by John R. Fallis, Jonas C. Aylesworth, Lucinda Plowman, and Rathan Plowman, to seeui’e a promissory note made by Aylesworth. One paragraph of the complaint was against Aylesworth alone, and sought merely a personal *272judgment. The- complaint, as amended, commenced thus:
