^¡STATEMENT OF CASE

On May 17, 2006, Jasmine Sartain was indicted for the second degree murder of Christopher Smith and for a separate count of aggravated assault of a peace officer. The court arraigned him on June 8, and he pled not guilty to both charges. The State severed the counts, and on October 4, 2007, at the conclusion of a three-day trial, a twelve-person jury found him guilty as charged of the second degree murder count.
