This is an original proceeding in mandamus. The relator is an insurance company, a Massachusetts corporation, duly authorized to do business in this state. The respondent, George G. Updegraff, is the circuit court judge for Wheeler county.

In compliance with the laws of Oregon, the relator appointed John Lichty as its statutory attorney for service of process. Mr. Lichty resides in Portland, Multnomah county, Oregon. The only office or place of business maintained by the relator within the state of Oregon is in Portland, and it owns no property within the state of Oregon except in Multnomah…
