This case is about the dissolution of a professional and personal relationship between a lawyer and his former client.

Martin Friedman began performing a variety of legal services for Mary Kuc-zkir — a successful author who writes under the pen name Fern Michaels — in the early 1980’s. Beginning in 2004 Friedman also began acting as Kuczkir’s literary agent, and in 2007 Friedman began receiving an 11% commission pursuant to a Commission Agreement for each publishing contract procured by Friedman on Kuczkir’s behalf.
