This is a case about abuse of governmental power by senior officials, in the federal government. Although technically framed as a request for disclosure of certain information in the files of the Federal Bureau of Investigation- (“FBI”) pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act *503(“FOIA”), at bottom, the case is about the ability of the federal government to pry into the private lives of U.S. citizens with virtual impunity.
