On February 14, 2001, Derrick DeAngelo Askew entered a negotiated plea of guilty to one count of rape and one count of burglary and was sentenced to serve concurrent terms of life plus twenty years. Two additional counts of burglary were nol prossed. On July 11,2011, Askew filed a pro se motion for an out-of-time appeal. On October 4, 2011, the trial court appointed counsel to represent Askew.
