Richard C. Medlin sued The Outlet Company, the operator of television station KSAT, for libel arising out of a television news broadcast which alleged that Medlin was engaged in a multi-million dollar gun smuggling scheme. The trial court’s judgment awarded Medlin general, special and exemplary damages totaling $1,600,000.00 based upon jury findings of falsity and malice.
