In 1918 plaintiff was the proprietor of a saloon at Basile, in the parish of Evangeline. On September 17th of that year he insured the merchandise contained in the saloon for §2,500, defendant writing the policy. On the night of November 3, 1918, the merchandise insured, with the exception of a very small part was destroyed by fire. Plaintiff made proof of the loss, and demanded payment, but defendant refused to pay, whereupon plaintiff brought this suit against defendant to recover the full amount of the policy with legal interest thereon from judicial demand until paid, for 12 per cent,…
