This is a proceeding instituted by the mayor, aldermen and commonalty of the city of New York to acquire title to the land necessary to open East One Hundred and Sixty-eighth' street, in the twenty-third ward of the city of New York. The proceeding was commenced in the year 1896, and on the 8th day of October, 1896, commissioners of estimate and assessment were appointed by the Supreme Court.
