This was an action of replevin, brought by the defendant in error as administrator of Louisa Gr. Steadman, the deceased wife of the plaintiff in error, against her husband, to recover certain slaves, alleged to have been the separate property of the wife.

The facts of the case, as agreed upon by the parties in the court below, are in substance as follows:
