The defendant, Victor Cubano, was charged by substitute information with the crimes of robbery in the first degree in violation *82of General Statutes § 53a-134 (a) (4),1 and of being a persistent dangerous felony offender in violation of General Statutes § 53a-40 (a).2 On October 23, 1985, the jury found the defendant guilty of the charge of robbery in the first degree. On October 28,1985, after a separate trial, the same jury found the defendant guilty of being a persistent dangerous felony offender.
