Most of the questions in this case were settled adversely to the claims.of the plaintiff in error by our decision of Bigelow v. Forrest. ‡ We then determined that under the act of Congress of July 17, 1862, known as the Confiscation Net, and the Joint Resolution of the same date explanatory thereof, only the life estate of the person for whose offence the land had been seized was subject to condemnation and sale.
