The plaintiff, appellee, commenced an action for damages against the defendant, appellant, in the court below in January, 1918, based upon alleged slanderous words spoken of and concerning plaintiff by defendant. The defendant, although duly served with process, failed to make answer to the complaint within the time prescribed by law and on March 14, 1918, judgment of default was entered against him.
