Following a jury trial, the defendant, Isaac Zurita, was found guilty of attempted murder (720 ILCS 5/8 — 4(a), 9 — 1 (West 1994)), armed violence (720 ILCS 5/33A — 2 (West 1994)), aggravated battery with a firearm (720 ILCS 5/12 — 4.2(a)(1) (West 1994)), and aggravated discharge of a firearm (720 ILCS 5/24 — 1.2(a)(1) (West 1994)) and sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment.
