A jury convicted appellant, Jeremy Thomas, of the first-degree felony offense of murder, and the trial court assessed punishment at confinement for life. 1 Appellant filed both a notice of appeal and a motion for new trial, and the trial court granted a new trial. We abated appellant’s appeal of his conviction while the State appealed the trial court’s order granting a new trial.
