On July 2, 2015, a grand jury indicted Daniel Tejeda (Tejeda or defendant) on charges of first-degree murder in violation of G.L. 1956 § 11-23-1. A Providence County Superior Court jury convicted the defendant on April 14, 2016. On appeal, the defendant argues that his trial commenced after the 180 days required by the Interstate Agreement on Detainers Act (IAD), G.L. 1956 § 13-13-2, Art. III(a).
