This is a petition for a writ of habeas corpus to bring the body of Tobias Watkins before this court, for the purpose of inquiring into the legality of his confinement in gaol. The petition states that he is detained in prison by virtue of a judgment.of the circuit, court of the United States, for the county of Washington, in the district of Columbia, rendered in a criminal prosecution carried on against him in that court.
