OAKES, Circuit Judge:

The operator and owner of a Greek-flag vessel, Constellation Lines S.A. (“Constellation”) and Entemar Shipping Co., S.A. (“Entemar”) respectively, appeal a judgment after a jury verdict in favor of a Greek seaman, George Karvelis, who was injured while working aboard the vessel Constellation Enterprise. The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, Robert L. Carter, Judge, entered judgment for $300,000 on Karvel-*51is’s claims of negligence under the Jones Act, 46 U.S.C. § 688 (1982), and unseaworthiness under general maritime law. The jury…
