CURLEY, EJ.

¶ 1. Joel D. Rhodes appeals from a judgment, entered upon a jury's verdict, convicting him of one count of kidnapping and one count of aggravated battery, both as a party to a crime. See Wis. Stat. *599§§ 940.31(l)(b), 940.19(5), 939.05 (2001-02).1 He also appeals from an order denying his postconviction motion. Rhodes contends that he was denied his right to counsel by the trial court and by actions of Milwaukee County jail personnel.
