Plaintiff, Bank of North Carolina,1 filed its complaint against The Rock Island Bank,2 alleging that Rock Island did, on June 5, 1969, issue an irrevocable letter of credit, “or commitment,” to purchase at maturity a certain promissory note of Lorraine Realty Corporation.3 A copy of the note in the principal amount of $400,000, dated June 5,1969, is attached as an exhibit to the complaint.
