The Meyers Contract Company had a contract to do certain work on the Bonneville dam. On February 20, 1934, it arranged to transport its construction equipment and supplies, with which to commence construction, from the Willamette Iron & Steel Works dock in Portland to the dam. The machinery was loaded on a barge by means of a heavy lift located on the dock. The barge, estimated at about one hundred tons, had been leased by the contractor.
