I have had great difficulty in satisfying my own mind as to the proper disposition of this case, resulting from the conflict of authorities as to what constitutes an estoppel inpais, and the application of the principle to the various reported cases. Scarcely any branch of the law has given rise to more discussion, and resulted in so great a difference of opinion among jurists, in the definition and application of the principle to the various cases presented in the Courts for adjudication.
