In 1992, defendant and two other individuals were indicted on a charge of kidnapping in the first degree. A June 1993 trial resulted in defendant’s conviction, and on July 21, 1993, defendant was sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of 15 years to life, a sentence he began serving while appealing the conviction.
