It appears that on the 5th day of June, 1877, the First National Bank of Plainfield, N, J., made and issued its draft upon the First-National Bank of New York, for $25, payable to the order of William A. Palmer , but prior to the 12th day of June, 1877, it was so altered by some unknown person that when on that day a stranger brought it to plaintiff's banking house, it bore date the 6th day of June, 1877, instead of the 5th, was for…
