From 2012 to 2014, Nathan C. McGuire was the head varsity girls’ basketball coach at Woodbury High School, a public school within Independent School District No. 833 (the District) in Woodbury,'Minne-sota. In March 2014, the South Washington County School Board (the School Board) decided not to renew McGuire’s coaching contract for the following school year. McGuire brought suit, alleging that the District and two of its employees violated his due process rights by declining to renew his contract solely on the basis of parent complaints.
