WEST, Chief Judge:

Petitioners, Howard Jackson and Major Williams, are presently confined in the West Baton Rouge Parish Prison at Port Allen, Louisiana, serving a five month sentence for the crime of theft in *1264violation of LSA-R.S. 14:67. Petitioners were convicted under that statute of having stolen the sum of $10.00. The statute in question provides that where the theft involves a value of less than $20.00, the offender shall be fined not more than $100.00 and/or imprisoned for not more than six months.
