On the evening of New Year’s Day, 2012, William Young drove a large sport utility vehicle into a crowded pedestrian crosswalk just outside the Georgia Dome, hitting and injuring a boy. Young was arrested and charged with crimes including less-safe driving under the influence (DUI) and serious injury by vehicle. After Young moved to suppress any statements made by him, the trial court dismissed the DUI and serious injury charges on the ground that police did not have probable cause to arrest him.
