The parties participated in an Islamic marriage ceremony as part of which the Defendant agreed to pay a "postponed" $30,000.00 dowry (the "Dowry"). They subsequently divorced, and the divorce court directed the Defendant to pay the Dowry. After the Defendant filed for bankruptcy, his ex-spouse commenced this adversary proceeding to declare the Dowry non-dischargeable, and has now moved for judgment on the pleadings seeking a declaration that the Dowry is non-dischargeable under 11 U.S.C. § 523(a)(15).
