John Henry Harmon, III, was inducted into the Army on October 31, 1952, under the Universal Military Training and Service Act.1 In May, 1953, some questions concerning membership in and relations with the Communist Party, and similar matters, were addressed to him by Army officials. He replied under oath, answering some questions and refusing to answer others on the ground of possible self-incrimination; his answers were reduced to writing and signed by him.
