Defendant John Rethman appeals as of right from several portions of a divorce judgment entered April 4, 1985. We reverse in part and remand to the trial court for modification as further provided in this opinion.

Plaintiff and defendant were married on December 19, 1958. Three children were born of the marriage, all of whom had reached the age of majority at the conclusion of this divorce action, which was commenced by plaintiff in December of 1982. During the first ten years of the marriage, defendant was employed as a dental technician while plaintiff earned money babysitting and cleaning…
