Defendant Thomas H. Lam, Jr. was charged in a multi-count indictment with violation of the Georgia RICO (Racketeer Influenced & Corrupt Organizations) Act (Count 1), eleven counts of theft by taking (Counts 2-13) and three counts of forgery in the first degree (Counts 14-16). The trial court, sitting without a jury, granted defendant’s motion for directed verdict on Counts 2 through 13 (the theft by taking charges) and on Count 15 (one of the forgery charges), and returned a verdict of guilty on Counts 1, 14 and 16.
