After a bench trial in the circuit court of Cook County, the defendant, Robert Lofton, was found guilty of unlawful use of weapons (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 38, par. 24 — l(a)(10)) and aggravated assault (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 38, par. 12 — 2(a)(1)), and sentenced to serve one year on probation, with the requirement that the first seven days be spent in the county jail. Both convictions were reversed by the appellate court (42 Ill. App. 3d 211); we then granted the People’s petition for leave to appeal.
