These three defendants, Richardson, Thompson, and Howser, were tried at the January, 1895, term of the Court of General Sessions for Spartanburg County, for the murder of one John Brown. The verdict of the jury was an acquittal for Sanford Howser, but conviction of manslaughter, with recommendation to mercy, of the defendants, Richardson and Thompson.
